We are very excited to share with you our new Wonder Room!
The Wonder Room is a special place in the school for children to have a calm space to explore their feelings, regulate their emotions and receive support.
It is used each week by our ELSA and our play therapist and each lunchtime hosts our Lunchtime Hub. Other children are able to use it throughout the week if they need to.
It was specially designed for the school by the Miss Kim Molloy and Mr Craig Wildman, parents of Freddie Year 2, and funded by WonderWard partnered with the Howard de Waldon estate. We are so grateful to them both for this wonderful space. Please click here to see the WonderWard Press Release.
The children are really enjoying exploring this room and all that is has to offer:
- The blackout tent and soft cushions provide an area for overstimulated children to re-regulate themselves in a safe way, as well as being a cosy place for a chat with friends!
- The tactile wall panels provide sensory stimulation for children and are very fun to play with!
- The space has flexible seating and tables that can be re-arranged depending on who is using the room.
- The carpet is incredibly soft and so no shoes are allowed in the room.
I’m absolutely thrilled to see The Wonder Room already being put to such wonderful use!
We are so proud to see it making a positive difference, and we hope it continues to be a space where every child feels calm, supported and cared for.
A heartfelt thank you to the school staff, children, and wider school community for embracing this space with such openness and enthusiasm. It means the world to see it becoming part of daily school life.
