Today in PE, Reception took part in a fun seaside themed dance lesson!

We began by listening carefully to some seaside sounds, such as waves, seagulls and ice-cream vans, and talked about what we might see, hear and do at the seaside.

We then sang ‘A Sailor Went to Sea’ together, walking safely around the space to the beat of the music. The children practised stopping, clapping and tapping in time, developing their listening skills, coordination and sense of rhythm.

Next, the children learnt a simple dance sequence inspired by a seaside postcard. They used different actions and levels to represent a beach parasol opening, rolling waves, digging with a spade and enjoying a squishy ice cream! We practised counting in time in counts of 8 to help us remember when to change actions and discussed how changing shape, direction and level makes a dance more interesting.

To finish, some children chose to perform the choreography to the class, showing great bravery and pride in their learning while others watched respectfully and clapped for their wonderful effort.

This was a really fun lesson! I really enjoyed our first dance session with you all.

Well done Reception for your brilliant work!
