This week in Year 2 has been full of exciting learning and lots of hard work.
In English, we have been focusing on writing emails and making them persuasive. We wrote an email to the mayor because there are two villains causing chaos in the city. We made sure to use a strong subject line to grab the mayor’s attention and included exclamation marks throughout our writing to show a sense of urgency. We carefully explained why this was an emergency and why we need the mayor to send a superhero to save the city. We organised our ideas clearly and used past and present tense, as well as progressive verbs, to make our writing lively and engaging.
In Maths, we have been exploring multiplication and division. We used arrays to show different multiplication sentences and practised linking addition sentences to multiplication sentences, helping us to see patterns and connections between numbers. We also solved word problems and explained our reasoning to each other, which helped everyone to understand how numbers work together. Many children challenged themselves by applying these skills to larger numbers and checking their answers carefully.
In Science, we have been learning about animals, including humans. We drew pictures of ourselves as babies and as we are now and compared how we have grown. We talked about the things we could not do as babies, like walking or talking, and reflected on the new skills we have now. We also discussed how humans change as they grow and why these changes happen.
In RE, we explored parables and read the parable of the lost sheep. We thought carefully about the main message of the story and discussed what it teaches us about God’s love and care for everyone. We also learned about miracles and the power of God’s love. We read and watched the story of the healing of the paralysed man and reflected on the kindness, mercy, and care shown by Jesus. These discussions helped us think about how we can show love and kindness in our own lives.
In History, we have been learning about historical heroes. We focused on Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and the amazing work they did during the Crimean War. We discussed the challenges these women faced, the courage and determination they showed, and how their actions helped others. The children thought about why these heroes are still remembered today.
In Computing, we have been focusing on online safety. We talked about how to stay safe online, what information should stay private, and what to do if we see something that worries us. We discussed how to be kind online, how to recognise reliable websites, and why it is important to think carefully before sharing anything. We also talked about the importance of asking a trusted adult for help when using the internet.
In PE, we have been practising our ball skills and learning to work as a team. We worked on passing, dribbling, and aiming, and played team games that required communication and support. They showed great resilience and kept trying even when skills were tricky.
In Music, we practised the song we learned last week and played instruments alongside our singing. We worked on keeping in time and listening carefully to each other. They enjoyed taking part, and we finished the week by recording a video of our performance, which showed how well we worked together.
Year 2 have worked really hard this week, shown resilience, and produced some fantastic work across all subjects. They should be very proud of themselves.
