In Religious Education this week, we explored the Nicene Creed and discussed its importance for Catholics. We focused particularly on Articles 2–4, thinking carefully about what they teach us about Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Church, and how these beliefs help guide Catholics in their faith and daily lives.
Firstly, we looked into the history of the Nicene Creed and saw that it was created in 325AD by a group of bishops who wanted to clarify exactly what Catholics believed about Jesus. They created the Creed which is now said weekly in Sunday Mass by lots of Catholics all over the world. We then discussed phrases within the Creed which reflected on how we believe that Jesus is divine and we should always look for guidance from his teaching.
Our task is was to work with our learning partners, to design a poster explaining why Catholics say the Creed at Mass. We reflected on how the Creed unites believers, reminds Catholics of what we believe, and strengthens our relationship with God. We expressed our ideas through written explanations, drawings and thoughtful use of colour, producing work that was both meaningful and visually engaging.
Later on this week, we will then get the chance to present our posters to the whole class to describe them and what we have created to answer the focus question.
Well done Year 4 on such wonderful learning partners work to create such inspiring and detailed posters. Why do you think it is important for Catholics to say the Creed often? How can it help them in their daily life?
