This week in Maths, our focus has been Number Bonds to 10.
Reception took part in a practical activity to deepen our understanding of how different numbers combine to make 10. The children were given three number bond sentences to complete and used a ten frame to show how two numbers can make 10. First, they carefully wrote the number sentence (for example, 3 + 7 =), and then represented it on their own ten frame using two different coloured counters.
Once their ten frames were complete, we practised saying the full number sentence aloud together: “3 plus 7 equals 10” before counting all the counters to check that the total was 10.
The children worked independently and successfully created three different number bond sentences each. We also enjoyed discussing other number bonds we know that make 10, helping to strengthen their recall and fluency!
We also used pegs and number wheels to show number pairs which make 10 and outside had a go at using bean bags and hoops to demonstrate number bonds in part whole models.
Well done everyone, I am so impressed with how quickly you are remembering your numbers bonds to 10…
