This week, Year 1 had a fantastic opportunity to visit Regent’s Park for a special cricket session with Coach Harry from the Marylebone Cricket Club.
We began our PE morning with a fun warm-up activity called mirroring, where the children worked with a partner to copy each other’s movements before swapping roles. This was a great way to get everyone active and ready for cricket.
Over the past few lessons, the children have been developing their throwing and catching skills, and this week they were excited to move on to batting. Coach Harry demonstrated the key techniques before the children had the chance to practise for themselves.
The class split into two teams: batters and fielders. The batters tried their best to hit the ball as far as possible, while the fielders worked together to retrieve the ball and return it quickly. It was wonderful to see the children showing such excellent teamwork, encouraging one another, cheering each other on, and helping their friends throughout the session.
Every child had several opportunities to take part as both a batter and a fielder, and they all showed great enthusiasm and determination.
A huge thank you to Mr Aitken for organising such a memorable experience, and to Harry from MCC for his expert coaching and support throughout the day.
