At the last auction (the 2025 auction) I won the raffle which made me Deputy Headteacher for the day.

At the start of the day I came early in my smart own clothes and by accident they had started the day without me! Then I came and they had realised their mistake. From 8:30 to 8:45 I handed out hand gel and introduced myself as Deputy Headteacher for the day. There were loads of children and most of them I did not know their names but I did give them a smile and said good morning to them!

After all the children came in, I went to the office with Miss Gomez and found who was late or absent. Following doing that, I rehearsed with Miss Carruthers for my upcoming assembly. Then I decided to put on a song called “as I kneel before you” and I introduced myself to the school in the assembly. I also talked about my special rule for the day, which allowed children to put on songs in class. They all seemed very happy with my rule and I hope they enjoyed listening to music during the day. After Miss Siswick was finished speaking about healthy schools and how we could achieve the healthy school golden award, I handed out certificates to the hard-working children.

I then went to the office to decide what to buy for the school, and I decided to buy some new whiteboard pens for everyone. After I had done the ordering and belly-rubbing the school dog named “Molly”, I had my break time.

Immediately after break, I walked downstairs into my for-a-day work place to meet with Miss Carruthers. Following that I walked downstairs into Reception to observe the classroom and so with every other classroom except Nursery who were on a school trip. I was really impressed by everybody’s work 🙂

I then walked down to lunchtime, not mine but KS1’s lunchtime, where I looked if they were eating enough vegetables and eating balanced meals. I then had my own lunch and played and went back to my for-a-day workplace.

I then did Nursery’s observing which was also good. Well done Nursery 🙂  I then gave all the feedback to all the teachers from observing their lessons earlier.

I finally wrote this newsletter and gave out sun stickers to the children who were on the sun.

It felt exhausting but at the end it really all was a fun experience. I suggest you buy some raffle tickets so that you can be Deputy Headteacher for the day like me!

An absolute masterclass in leadership, Mr S! From handing out hand gel at the gates to checking on the vegetables at lunch, you didn’t miss a thing.

You’ve set the bar incredibly high for the next raffle winner. Well done!

Good luck for the raffle winner for next year!

  2. I really overall loved my experience and remember if you want to be like me all you need to do is get a raffle ticket and cross your fingers.
