As part of our learning about the Sacrament of Baptism, the children enjoyed bringing their learning to life through a special Baptism role play this week.

Together, we chose the name Isobel for our baby and worked together to recreate a Baptism celebration. The children took on different roles, including the priest, mummy, daddy, godparents and grandparents, and helped to prepare everything we needed.

We talked about the special symbols used during Baptism, including the font, water, shell, Paschal Candle and white garment. We explored how Baptism welcomes us into the Church and into God’s family, and talked about the special role of godparents in supporting and guiding a child as they grow in their faith.

The children then acted out the Baptism ceremony. The child taking on the role of the priest used the shell to pour water over baby Isobel’s head while saying, “I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

It was wonderful to see the children confidently taking on their different roles and using what they have learned about Baptism to bring this special celebration to life.
