Year 1 enjoyed taking part in Hello Yellow Day to mark World Mental Health Day! Hello Yellow is an annual campaign run by YoungMinds, a charity that supports children and young people’s mental health, encouraging everyone to show young people that they are not alone.
The children looked wonderful coming into school wearing a splash of yellow, from bright yellow socks and colourful hair accessories to some fantastic, all-yellow outfits!
In the afternoon, we explored the different emotions we might experience, including happiness, sadness, anger, disappointment, excitement and silliness. We talked about how all our feelings are important and it is okay to feel different emotions. We also thought about the things we can do to help ourselves feel better when we are feeling sad, angry or worried, and how we can turn to trusted adults for support when we need it.
For our Hello Yellow activity, the children created beautiful emotion flowers! They decorated flower templates with different facial expressions and some even added words to name the emotions we might feel. Our flowers were a lovely reminder that everyone experiences a whole range of feelings and that it is important to recognise, understand and talk about them.
We are so proud of the children for sharing their ideas and thinking carefully about how we can look after our own mental health and support one another.
Well done Year 1!
