On Thursday, Year 2 had the amazing opportunity to visit Regent’s Park for an exciting cricket session, with fantastic support from Middlesex Cricket Club!

We began our adventure by walking together to Regent’s Park, where we were ready to put our cricket skills to the test. The children showed excellent enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the journey and were very excited to take part in this special sporting experience.

Once we arrived, we started with a fun warm-up activity, where we learnt all about the important signals used by cricket umpires. The children discovered what different symbols meant, including a wide ball, and learnt how umpires communicate decisions during a match. We enjoyed practising these signals ourselves, and there were plenty of eager volunteers keen to demonstrate their new knowledge!

After warming up, it was time to develop our cricket skills. With the guidance and encouragement of the Middlesex Cricket Club coaches, we practised our bowling and batting techniques. During the bowling activities, we focused on aiming carefully, controlling the direction of the ball and developing our throwing skills. The children worked hard to improve their accuracy and enjoyed challenging themselves to see how close they could get to their targets.

We then moved on to batting, where we practised holding the bat correctly, watching the ball carefully and making contact with it. The children learnt how important it is to keep their eyes on the ball, use good hand-eye coordination and think about where they wanted to hit it. Everyone had the chance to practise, build their confidence and celebrate their progress.

Year 2 did an absolutely fantastic job! We were so proud of their enthusiasm, positive attitudes and willingness to give everything a go. They represented our school brilliantly and showed that learning a new sport can be both challenging and lots of fun. A huge thank you to Middlesex Cricket Club for providing such an engaging and enjoyable experience, helping our children develop new skills and discover the excitement of cricket.
