In our Religious Education topic of ‘Creation and Covenant’ this term, Year 6 have been learning about the second account of Creation (Genesis 2:5-10, 15-23, 3:1-7,9-13, 17-19) and how the story of Adam and Eve explains why the world is no longer as good as it was in the beginning, when God first created it.
Last week, we learned about Baptism as the first sacrament of the forgiveness of sins. It unites Christians with Jesus Christ, who dies and rises, and strengthens the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We created illustrated booklets for Year 2, to explain the symbols in the Sacrament of Baptism that point to a Christian’s new life in Christ
This week, we were able to share our booklets with the children in Year 2 as they began learning more about Baptism in their RE lesson. Year 2 seemed to be very interested in our booklets and were thrilled to be given them to keep. We really enjoyed showing our understanding of the sacrament of Baptism by explaining it to the younger children.
Today, we learned about Jesus as the fulfilment of God’s new covenant and how God restored humanity’s relationship with him through Jesus. We enjoyed working with our learning partner to test how well we knew the Nicene Creed and also explored John 1:1-5, 16-18 which tells us that Jesus has been here since the beginning of time.
What have you enjoyed learning about most in this RE topic, Year 6?
