The Royal Ballet school are offering 100 classes for 100 years to schools across the country and we were very fortunate to be selected for a special visit and lesson from a Royal Ballet School practitioner. We were particularly keen to offer the lesson to Years 3 and 4 as an introduction to ballet because Years 5 and 6 are already using the Royal Ballet School’s online lessons as part of their dance curriculum in PE.
The children really enjoyed the session, which was an opportunity to experience the story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland through movement. We got to explore how the characters might move based on their personalities and emotions and we got to spiral down into the rabbit hole. We met the Mad Hatter and created our own tea party before being introduced to the Queen of Hearts and using our bodies to recreate the shapes of playing cards.
We loved the session because it was so interactive, everyone was involved in telling the story every step of the way and we learned how to manipulate our bodies into different shapes so we could tell a story. We would like to say a massive thank you to the Royal Ballet School for such a wonderful experience!
