Year 4 had a fantastic day visiting the Science Museum, where we took part in an exciting and interactive workshop linked to our current Science topic: The Digestive System.

The highlight of our visit was the live performance of ‘It Takes Guts’, which took us on an adventure inside the human body! We followed the journey of food from the moment it entered our mouths, through the stomach’s acid bath and along the many metres of intestines, before eventually leaving the body. The children were fascinated to discover how the different organs work together to break down food and help our bodies absorb nutrients.

There were plenty of interesting (and slightly stomach-churning!) moments along the way! The children had the opportunity to watch real endoscopic footage from inside the digestive system, bringing their classroom learning to life. There was even a rather unexpected moment when some ‘saliva’ (don’t worry, just water!) was splashed over the children, causing plenty of squeals and laughter!

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, curious and eager to share what they already knew. They asked questions, joined in with the demonstrations and made fantastic connections with their learning in the classroom.

What a memorable way to bring Science to life!
