This week in Music we began our first ukulele lesson with Mr Hylton!
First we learnt about all of the parts of the ukulele such as the strings, sound hole, frets and tuning pegs. We then practiced holding a ukulele the correct way with one arm at the two o’clock position and one hand holding near ukulele the tuning pegs and the other over strings next to the sound hole.
Later in the lesson we tuned the ukuleles and began to learn how to pluck and strum them. We learnt the mnemonic device ‘Good Children Eat Apples’ which is an easy way to remember the string order of a ukulele (GCEA).
Next week we will be playing open string rest notes to create a simple tune called ‘Stringalong drag’ and learning how to strum the ukuleles with an accompaniment from the piano.
What did you enjoy most about our first ukulele lesson?
It is very fun to play the ukulele!
