This term in Art, Year 1 have been learning about the exciting work of artist Chris Ofili. Chris Ofili is a British artist known for his colourful and imaginative paintings. He often uses lots of patterns, bright colours, and interesting materials in his artwork, and he loves to tell stories through his pictures.
We looked closely at some of his amazing pieces and noticed that he uses all kinds of lines in his work. One special technique we explored is called continuous line drawing — this means keeping your pencil on the paper the whole time while you draw, without lifting it up!
As a warm-up, we practiced some fun continuous drawing activities. We split our page into three parts: in the first section, we took a line for a walk (letting our pencil wander all over the page!), then we drew a tree using just one line, and finally, we tried recreating part of one of Ofili’s artworks.
This was a fun and positive challenge that everyone really enjoyed! To finish off, we added bold and bright colours, just like Ofili does in his work. The results were fantastic!
Well done, Year 1 — you showed great focus, creativity, and effort!
