As part of our Schools to Market project, Year 2 were thrilled to welcome a special visitor – gardener Ella!

We began the session by discussing the importance of growing our own food and how this can have a positive impact on our health, our environment, and the animals that share it with us. Ella helped us understand just how valuable gardening can be for both people and the planet.

Next, she introduced us to the vegetables we would be planting: cauliflower, peas, broad beans, carrots, and mustard greens. Before we could begin planting, we had to prepare the soil by removing all the weeds and making sure the pots were ready.

The children loved getting their hands dirty and learning about each step in the planting process. Ella taught us so much about how to care for different vegetables, and we’re excited to watch our plants grow. With some patience and care, we’re hoping to taste the fruits (or rather, vegetables!) of our labour in the months to come.

Thank you, Ella, for such an inspiring and educational session!
