We’ve really enjoyed diving into the fascinating world of Ancient Greek mythology this week as part of our learning in History. Thanks to our Shared Reading sessions exploring Mythologica, we already have a good understanding of some of the most famous gods and goddesses, and a few of us are real experts already!

We learned that the Ancient Greeks believed in many gods and goddesses, each with their own powers and responsibilities. These beliefs helped them explain things that happened in the world, like the weather, illness, or natural disasters. Although we know today that these stories were myths, the Greeks truly believed in them and built temples, held festivals, and offered prayers to honour their gods. Their beliefs were a central part of their daily life and culture.

After this, we worked in groups to research more Olympian gods using books and iPads. Once we had gathered enough information, one person from each group stepped into character and took the hot seat. The rest of the class asked them interview questions about their powers, personalities, symbols and legendary stories.

It was brilliant to see such confident role play, thoughtful questions and lots of humour and imagination. The interviews helped us understand why these gods were so important to Ancient Greek people and what made each one unique.

Which Greek god or goddess would you most like to meet and why?

One comment on “History: Interviewing Greek Gods

  1. Which Greek god or goddess would you most like to meet and why?

That is an amazing question! Honestly, I would meet Hermes so that I can try to help him in his job.

Second, I would like to meet Athena so that I can find a strategy for everything. Also, to learn how to hunt and not become a stag or a rock.

Thirdly, I would meet Apollo so that I can learn archery.

Fourth, I would meet Ares so that I can become better at combat.

I would actually meet all of them!!
