It has been a very exciting first week back for Year 4!
On our first day back earlier this week, it was great to catch up with all our classmates whom we haven’t seen for a whole 6 weeks! After settling into our new classroom, our teacher went over classroom rules and expectations and all the wonderful topics that we will be covering over the year.
Firstly, we looked into our first PSHE topic of the year, which is Citizenship, and we learnt that we would be exploring about rules and laws. We had to first understand the difference between a rule and a law and understand the process in bringing these into play. We explored the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and how every child has rights that adults need to help support. We discussed the different rights with our learning partners and selected 4 that will become part of our class charter in our classroom.
Next, we explored our My Place In The World Geography topic with the focus question: What does Regents Park have to offer to the local area? Regent’s Park is a place that lots of us have been to before for sporting competitions or with friends and family so we know the area fairly well. We had to conduct some research in the computing suite using the Royal Parks website to understand what exactly Regents Park had to offer and took notes ahead of answering our focus question. We found that there are places like London Zoo, The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and lots of cafes where you can grab some food and drink.
After returning to class, we then explored different maps and looked at working out different symbols on a map. We then had a go at drawing our own map of Regent’s Park with selected landmarks and a key to match. The last part of our enquiry was to use our notes from our research to fully explain the focus question.
Lastly, we started our history topic of Ancient Rome and Roman Britain by exploring a timeline of different historical civilisations, so we understood when the Romans lived. We then looked at some interesting facts about the Roman Empire and the impact they had on the world as they invaded many countries with their incredible army. Our task was to create our own Roman army shields to showcase all the different patterns that we could think of. It was great to see so many wonderful designs!
Well done Year 4 on your first week back! You have all settled back so quickly!
