In our second music lesson of the academic year, the Year 3 children have been given their own recorders to use in class and take home to practice!

Most of us were handling a wind instrument for the first time and we learned which fingers to cover the holes to create notes. We had to really concentrate to remember which hand to hold the instrument with and which hand to use to cover the holes!

We also needed to practice blowing gently because both blow that was too strong and a blow that was not strong enough would create the wrong note. We had to imagine we were gently blowing on a flame to make it flicker, not to blow it out.

We had to chance to practice as a whole class and in groups of 7 or 8 and once we were starting to get the hang of it, we started to apply our notes to backing music, which by the end of the lesson was starting to sound beautiful.

We’re looking forward to learning to play the recorder over the course of this term and we’ll be able to play some recognisable tunes in no time! Well done Year 3!
