This week, we continued learning our Phase 2 phonics sounds: ‘g’, ‘o’, ‘c’ and ‘k’.
On Wednesday, we focused on the phoneme ‘c’ and had a brilliant lesson together.
We started with an exciting game of ‘Speedy Sounds’ which has become a class favourite and had lots of fun spotting different sounds. In this game, the children had to spot one of the sounds we have already learnt and put their hands on their heads as quickly as possible with the fastest person was the winner! It was such a fun way to recap our sounds and there were lots of eager winners as we played!
After this, we learnt our new sound and played playing ‘What’s in the Box?’. The children were intrigued to name lots of objects we found in the box beginning with the ‘c’ phoneme, including a cat, a crown, and a car.
We then practised blending words orally using known sounds and even challenged ourselves to read some CVC words, such as ‘top’, ‘dog’, and ‘cat’. It was exciting to discover how many words we can already read using the sounds we have learnt over the last few weeks.
To finish, everyone had a go at writing the grapheme ‘c’ on the whiteboards, remembering our catchphrase: “curl round the cat” to guide us as we wrote the letter.
I am so proud of how confident and enthusiastic the children are becoming in phonics!
What a fantastic job, Reception, I am very proud of you all.
