We had a very successful Enterprise week this year in Year 3! We made cardboard tube dragons and we secured lots of orders, therefore lots of profit, which we can spend on books for the book corner!
On Monday, we started the week by deciding on the product and we had a few to choose from: an owl, a bumblebee, a bird and a dragon, among others. The vote for the dragons was unanimous and we also voted for a company name and slogan from a range of suggestions. To make it easier to track our votes, we made tally charts and converted the results into bar charts. The winning company name was ‘Firestorm’ and the winning slogan was ‘This dragon’s coming for you!’ Our last job for Monday was to design a company logo and a winner was chosen from everybody’s designs.
On Tuesday, we had the privilege of a parent speaker, Marie, the head of sales at Carbonplace, to discuss her role in the world of work. We then shifted our focus back to our product and we designed posters to advertise the product. The posters would be displayed in Wednesday’s assembly so we knew we had to make them bold, catchy and colourful. Wednesday’s assembly was a roaring success because several of us presented the product to the rest of the school and by lunchtime, we had our orders – 97 of them!! Thankfully our parents came in for 45 minutes on Wednesday afternoon to help us get started on making the product. There was a lot of work to be done!
Thursday was devoted to making to product and it wasn’t easy to fulfil all the orders (especially as we had to make each product in specific colours!) but with a lot of perseverance and resilience, we managed it! It was very important we hit the 3:15pm deadline to make the orders because on Friday morning, our job was to distribute the orders to all the different classes (as well as receive our own orders from the other classes).
We calculated that after spending £33.50 on resources (the paint, the tubes, the glitter foam and the googly eyes) and gathering an income of £97, our profit was an amazing £63.50! We are going to use the money to spend on the book corner but we’ll decide as a class exactly what we’ll buy. Year 3 worked extremely hard this week and did us all proud to produce so many brilliant dragons for our peers! Well done Year 3!
