This week in our PSED sessions, we focused on how special we all are and how our differences make the world a wonderful place to live. We began by looking at pictures of two bears and talking about what was the same and what was different. The children noticed that the bears looked alike and that they both enjoyed music.
We then shared some of our own favourite things like Spiderman, unicorns, reading, and running. The children loved showing what they enjoyed, and we noticed that while some of us have similar interests, others like different things and that’s what makes us unique!
We also talked about how we all look different, but that each of us was made by God, which makes us special. The children observed that we all have different kinds of hair some short, some long, some straight, and some curly. We reflected on how wonderful it is to be different, while also finding joy in having things in common with our friends.
Finally, the children shared what makes them special and unique. Their ideas included being great swimmers, enjoying cooking and baking with family, reading stories, caring for God’s world by watering plants, and being kind and loving siblings. As we shared, each child received a special heart stick to remind them that they are loved and that we are all special in our own unique ways.
It was a lovely way of celebrating ourselves and appreciating what makes each one of us special!
