On Tuesday, members of our School Council and Pupil Chaplaincy Team came together for a special session to mark Remembrance Day, a significant moment each year when we pause to honour those who have served, fought, and sacrificed their lives in conflicts past and present. Remembrance Day helps us reflect on the importance of peace, gratitude, and the freedoms we enjoy today.
We began our gathering with Miss Forster Adams, who introduced the children to the meaning behind Remembrance Day and explained why we wear a poppy. The children showed a deep understanding of the day’s importance and confidently linked their thoughts to our British Values, especially respect and tolerance.
The children then took part in a creative activity, painting their own poppies. They decided these would be lovely to display in the hall as a reminder to the whole of St Vincent’s of this important day. It was wonderful to see the children working so thoughtfully—collaborating, concentrating, and showing such calm and care in their work.
To end our session, the Pupil Chaplaincy Team led us in a beautiful and reflective prayer, helping us hold in our hearts all those who have lost their lives and those who continue to serve today.
At 11 o’clock, our whole school joined together for a two-minute silence, showing respect and gratitude for the fallen soldiers and everyone who still works to protect our country. When the children entered the lunch hall afterwards, they were greeted by the poppy artwork proudly displayed for all to see.
We are incredibly proud of our pupils for the maturity, respect, and empathy they showed throughout this important day.
