During Lent,  we think about the fasting and temptation of Jesus Christ in the Desert. Lent is a time for preparation. In the Old Testament we can find Moses, at Exodus 34:28 who fasts for forty days and forty nights before he writes down the Ten Commandments. It is a time of preparing to do the work of God.

We all have rules and laws that we follow every day, they are there to keep everybody safe and protected. There are lots of extra rules in place at the moment in our world designed to keep ourselves and others safe.  God wanted his people the Israelites to live their best lives just like he had originally planned for them to do.  God’s rules were not so that he could control his people but because He knew what was best for them.

We would like to share with you the Old Testament reflection created by our wonderful diocese: Lent Week – OT Reflection (KS1)

In this PowerPoint you will be reminded that Exodus is the book in which God first lays out his expectations for the people of Israel—we know these expectations as the 10 Commandments.

There are some additional fun activities you can try out at home:

Exodus 20 – The 10 Commandments

Some questions to think about:

How can we use the 10 commandments to help us to become more like Jesus in our daily lives?

What can you do today to show that you love God above anything else?

We hope you enjoy the PPT and the activities attached!
