In Science this week, we have been learning about reflection. We have learned that everything we can see is reflective because light reflects off the object and travels into our eyes. That’s how we can see the world around us. However, some objects are more reflective than others.

Today we carried out an investigation to see which items were reflective and which items weren’t. During the investigation, we came to realise that there are different levels of reflection: some items are very reflective whereas others are just quite reflective.

We chose to test the reflectiveness of the following items: hi vis vest, desk, coloured fabric, mirror, black paper and tin foil. We pushed the torch through white card and shone the torch on the item. The white card enabled us to judge the reflectiveness of the item because if we could see the torch light through the card, that meant the item was very reflective. If we couldn’t see the light through the card, that meant it wasn’t.

We discovered that the most reflective items were the mirror and the tin foil while the least reflective items were the coloured fabric and the black paper.
