Our new class novel is King Kong by Anthony Browne. This book has a theme of ambition and desire which we will be exploring this term.

Yesterday, while we were in class, we heard some loud thumping upstairs which made the walls vibrate! We all went up on to the roof playground to see what was going on and we discovered a large footprint. We acted as investigative journalists reporting upon the scene where the large footprint was found. We had some important questions to think about, such as:

Who knew that this footprint had appeared?

What time was the footprint left?

Where is the creature that made it now?

We then learnt that Carl Denham is a fictional film director in the film ‘King Kong’. In the film Carl looks for the leading lady to act in his film. We had to write a job description for the role of leading lady, including qualities/attributes/skills required/ perks of job. This tied in very well with our Film topic because we recently had to apply for job roles for our filming!

We are very excited because this book will give us plenty of opportunity to investigate the author’s style and use of language, as well as explore the characters’ feelings and motivations in the story. We will also be working hard to write a newspaper article to document the details of the story of King Kong.
