We have been learning that artists have their own preferred styles and techniques. This year, we have already tried out lots of different art techniques and styles this year, inspired by the work of artists Paul Nash, Augusta Savage and Yinka Shonibare, and are developing our own preferred styles and techniques.
Today, inspired by Claudette Johnson’s style and techniques, we tried out creating portraits, from life, on a much larger scale than we are used to. We used charcoals, pastels and paints to create enormous self portraits! Some of us really enjoyed it while some of us decided that we much prefer working on a smaller scale.
What is your favourite artist/artistic style and why?
I really enjoyed making this self portrait of me. It was quite hard but also a lot of fun! Learning about Claudette Johnson was so much fun! I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!!

I’m GUTTED I wasn’t in school to be able to make these pieces of art with my friends. Maybe next time!
It was really difficult to draw big. I still thought it was fun though.
I had so much fun but I had to repeat the eye several times! It was a very nice experience to do double the size of my own face!!
This drawing activity was so fun and a bit hard to. Everyone’s was really amazing and I hope they all enjoyed drawing them self .🪷🌼
I loved painting in big! You could do the details that in normal size wouldn’t matter or would not be visible.
