At the end of last half term, Year 6 were privileged to participate in a ‘Dementia Friends’ workshop, led by Mrs Carville. In the session the children learnt that dementia is caused by a disease of the brain, not just because a person gets older, and that it affects people in different ways, not just memory loss.

The children focussed on how we can, through a greater understanding, help people with the disease to live well. With support, care, kindness and  patience we can help them to feel safe and loved and show that we understand that there is more to a person than dementia. We found the workshop very thought-provoking and will be reflecting on what we learnt during our new Religious Education topic, ‘Reconciliation : Healing’.
