This term in Design and Technology, Year 1 had the exciting task of designing and making puppets.

Design:
The project began by thinking about a target audience. The children discussed who would enjoy playing with puppets and quickly identified themselves as the perfect consumers for their products. They then designed their puppets using a simple template, choosing a variety of colours and adding creative features such as hair, eyelashes and other details to make each puppet unique.

Make:
The children used felt to create their puppets. First, they selected their chosen colour and carefully cut around their template to create a neat and well-shaped puppet. To join the materials together, the children used staples, which they found both exciting and enjoyable to use. Finally, they decorated their puppets with accessories such as googly eyes, hair and glitter, bringing their designs to life.

Evaluate:
After completing their puppets, the children evaluated their work. They agreed that the puppets were successful, worked well and were suitable for their target audience, making them fun for children to play with. The children also discussed how they could improve their designs in the future, noticing that some puppets broke as the staples did not always hold. They suggested that using stronger glue or sewing could be a better method of joining materials next time.

Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed making their puppets, and the final results were fantastic. Well done to Year 1 for all their hard work and creativity!
