In Religious Education lessons, we have recently been learning about the message Paul gave to the people living in Ephesus (please see the end of this post for the special message).

He told them that everyone has a special role to play, and if each one is committed to it, it will help everyone. Using what we have discussed in class, we all designed a job description for the position of someone in Christian service and explained how the person must have grown up to be like Christ. We then used our questions to interview ‘Followers of Christ’ for this position.

Here are some of the questions we asked:

Do you do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds us together?

Do you bring joy to others?

Are you willing to serve God no matter what?

Are you tolerant, humble and gentle?

Do you believe that we are all united and that there is only one God?

Do you love Jesus with all your heart and do you try to follow in his footsteps by being compassionate towards others?

What positive effect do you have on those around you?

Will you follow the path that God’s fate has lead you to?

Do you live a life which measures up to the standard God set you when he called you?

We asked children from our class to answer these questions as if they were applying for the job of ‘Follower of Jesus’ and we realised that we have many faithful followers in our class!

Ephesians 4: 11-13, 15:

It was He who gave gifts to people; He appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, others to be pastors and teachers. He did this to prepare all God’s people for the work of Christian service, in order to build up the body of Christ. And so we shall all come together to that oneness in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God; we shall become mature people. We must grow up in every way to be like Christ.
