In Geography this week, we explored how weather and climate impact people around the world.
We began by developing our understanding of the difference between weather (day-to-day conditions) and climate (long-term patterns). Using a range of images and discussion, we investigated five global biomes: polar, temperate, desert, tropical and Mediterranean.
We examined the typical climate and weather found in each biome and considered how these conditions affect the way people live. We focused on human adaptation, discussing how factors such as housing, clothing, and jobs are shaped by climate. Through comparison and thoughtful discussion, we began to think like geographers by explaining why people live differently in different parts of the world.
To challenge our thinking further, we evaluated the benefits and challenges of living in different biomes, using evidence from what we had learned. This helped us to make clear links between physical geography and human geography, while developing our geographical vocabulary and enquiry skills.
Based on what you know so far, how far does climate shape the way people live?
