In Geography this week, we explored how weather and climate impact people around the world.

We began by developing our understanding of the difference between weather (day-to-day conditions) and climate (long-term patterns). Using a range of images and discussion, we investigated five global biomes: polar, temperate, desert, tropical and Mediterranean.

We examined the typical climate and weather found in each biome and considered how these conditions affect the way people live. We focused on human adaptation, discussing how factors such as housing, clothing, and jobs are shaped by climate. Through comparison and thoughtful discussion, we began to think like geographers by explaining why people live differently in different parts of the world.

To challenge our thinking further, we evaluated the benefits and challenges of living in different biomes, using evidence from what we had learned. This helped us to make clear links between physical geography and human geography, while developing our geographical vocabulary and enquiry skills.

Based on what you know so far, how far does climate shape the way people live?

This was so fun! I loved how we got to describe different biomes! My favourite biome was a desert biome.

  3. I love this geography topic! I can’t wait to learn more.

    This was a fun lesson.

This lesson was quite fun even though I did it on the computer. We learned about the biomes all over the world from the deserts to the polar region and the Mediterranean coastlines. I nearly know all about the world now!🌍

  6. I loved this work it was straight forward. It was so interesting.

  7. Climate always changes through time and as we all know it’s because of global warming.
This is causing the polar biome to get warmer.
Some areas on earth don’t have seasons but where we live we do have seasons.

  8. I think it is a really interesting and fun geography topic!

Climate shapes the way people live for example it may prevent people from doing activities all year round such as camping or swimming in the European continent.
Clothing, transport, food, leisure activities are all subject to change depending on the weather conditions in different biomes in the world.
