In our Geography lessons we have been looking at maps and in History we have been studying the process of evacuation in WW2.

To combine our learning, this week we focused on a school that was evacuated from central London to a region in Wales, Snowdonia.

However, we had the question; ‘Why were the children evacuated from London to Snowdonia?’

To answer the question, we compared the two contrasting regions and studied the human and physical characteristics (using OS map symbols). By looking at the land use it was clear to see that Snowdonia had many ore physical characteristics than Human Characteristics. Whereas London had many human characteristics but few physical characteristics.

Therefore it was clear to see why the children were considered to be safer in Snowdonia than London due to the Strategic bombing that occurred during WW2.

Finally to identify the exact school in London we had to use a six figure grid reference as this allowed us to pinpoint the school exactly.
