Today is World Mental Health day and on this day we wear yellow!
Today was a day where we spoke about our mental health, feelings and emotions. We did lots of activities to encourage us to talk about and share our feelings. We began our day with mindful colouring and then moved onto talking about what mental health is. Lots of the children weren’t too sure at the start of the day but by the end knew we were talking about the health of our minds. We spoke about the importance of keeping our bodies healthy and emphasised that keeping our minds healthy is just as important too.
After break Mrs Hope who is our Schools ELSA did an emotional literacy session with us, during this time Mrs Hope discussed different emotions and explained that all feelings are okay and the class spoke about those feelings and who their trusted adults are both in school and at home. Mrs Hope even read us a super story all about feelings. To end the session each child said one nice thing about the person next to them, it was so lovely to see.
This afternoon we created colour monsters which matched our emotions. It was lovely to hear the children sharing their different feelings with each other and explaining why they are feeling a certain way. We also created affirmation cards, the children thought of lots of different ways we can be positive towards ourselves. Some of the children’s ideas were:
I am brave
I am smart
I am kind
I am loved
I am beautiful
