This week in our oracy lesson, the children enjoyed an exciting activity linked to our class text ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the story together, joining in with key phrases from the story, learning new vocabulary, and thinking carefully about the characters.
To build on this, this children created their very own bears. Everyone coloured their bears brown and used different materials to add texture and detail, including brown card, paper and tissue paper, which they carefully stuck onto their bear outline. As they worked, the children talked about what the bear looks like in the story, sharing ideas about the bear and why he chased the family. We also added eyes to our bears and thought about how the bear might have been feeling when the family came into its cave! To complete our creations, we will be adding ‘a black, shiny nose’ before using rich descriptive vocabulary and adjectives from the text to describe their bears.
This activity was lots of fun and helped us to develop oracy skills. We practised speaking in full sentences, listening to one another’s ideas, and extending our vocabulary through discussions.
We were so impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and the wonderful language they used to bring their bears to life!
