This week in Reception, we have been very busy growing our phonics skills and developing confidence in our early writing. The children were excited to learn four new Phase 2 sounds this week: v, w, x and y as well as how to write their graphemes.
Throughout the week, the class enjoyed playing lots of phonics games, including Speedy Sounds, What’s in the Box?, and reading lots of new words and sentences containing the focus sounds in our daily lessons. These games helped us to hear, recognise and use our new phonemes with increasing confidence.
Each day, the children also practised writing the graphemes on their whiteboards, focusing carefully on correct letter formation. They worked so hard to remember each sound’s formation phrase and apply it in their writing when writing words.
On Thursday, we had our big writing lesson, where we re-capped all the sounds we had learnt during the week. The children then showcased their fantastic progress by writing each grapheme beautifully in their writing books. We even used lolly sticks to help us leave clear spaces between each grapheme and keep our work neat and beautifully presented.
Well done, Reception! We are so proud of how hard you are working in Literacy and how beautifully neat and well-formed your graphemes are becoming.
Keep up the brilliant effort!
