This week in Maths, we’ve been combining our learning about Minibeasts with some fantastic number work! The children took part in a fun and colourful activity called “Counting with Caterpillars”, where they were challenged to recognise numbers from 1 to 10 and paint the matching number of dots next to each caterpillar.

This creative task helped us practise number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and careful counting. Nursery did all of this while focusing on their fine motor skills, making sure to paint the correct caterpillar! Nursery loved getting hands-on with paints and exploring the idea of quantity in a meaningful and engaging way.

We were so impressed with how confidently the children tackled this activity. Many were able to independently identify each number and count out the correct number of dots with care and accuracy. This activity was a fun was to explore Nursery’s knowledge and understanding of caterpillars, butterflies and our minibeasts topic whilst being expressive with paint!

A big well done to all of our mini mathematicians! Your caterpillars look fantastic, and you’ve shown brilliant number knowledge. Keep up the great work!
