This week in Maths, Reception have been busy comparing groups within 10 and become confident with using the vocabulary ‘more’ and ‘fewer’. We took part in lots of fun, hands on activities to help us practice these important early maths skills.

In the classroom, the children enjoyed a partner game where they selected a number card up to 10 and represented that number using fruit counters on a tens frame. They then compared their number of fruit with their partner, discussing who had more and who had fewer. This was a great opportunity to practise counting carefully and using mathematical language.

Our learning continued outdoors with a lively game of Rob the Nest, where teams collected bean bags and then compared their totals to see which team had more or fewer. The children also worked together to build towers using wooden construction, competing to see who could build the bigger tower and explaining their thinking as they compared sizes.

On Friday, the children worked hard in their PowerMaths books to apply everything they had learned. They used pictures to compare groups and show their understanding of more and fewer.

Everyone showed fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and concentration throughout the week.

Well done, Reception for your super maths learning!
