This week in maths, we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have been practising our 2s, 5s and 10 times tables and using these to help us multiply and divide numbers. We talked about how multiplication and division are linked and how they can be used to solve different problems.
We also revisited our prior learning from Year 1 by looking at odd and even numbers. This helped us understand which numbers can be shared into equal groups and supported our learning about multiplication and division.
To help us understand our learning, we used practical resources such as cubes. We used the cubes to make equal groups, build arrays and share amounts fairly. This hands-on approach helped us see what was happening with the numbers and gave us confidence when solving problems.
Throughout the week, children had turns to share their answers on the interactive whiteboard, which made our maths lessons more fun and exciting. The class was encouraged to ask and answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions so children could explain their thinking and learn from each other.
Some children also challenged themselves by solving word problems involving multiplication and division using 2s, 5s and 10s. They explained their answers using cubes, pictures and number sentences to show their understanding.
The children have also been enjoying using Times Tables Rock Stars, which has made learning their times tables super fun and helped them practise their skills regularly.
Overall, the children showed great focus, confidence and enjoyment in their maths learning this week.
