This week in RE, we learned all about Lent and what it means to forgive and say sorry. We talked about why it can be hard to forgive someone or to say sorry, and why it is really important to be kind and make things right when we have hurt someone. We shared ideas about times we have fallen out with friends or accidentally hurt someone’s feelings, and thought about how saying sorry can help everyone feel better.
As part of our learning, we created a forgiveness tree for our classroom display. We each wrote a special promise on a paper leaf. Some of us wrote about someone we wanted to forgive, and others wrote about someone we needed to say sorry to. We also wrote why it might be tricky, and how we could try to do it kindly. It was fun to share our ideas with our friends and see all the different ways we can show forgiveness.
We also practised role-playing how to say sorry and how to forgive. It was a little tricky at first, but everyone tried really hard and helped each other practise being kind and understanding. We laughed a lot, and it was a really nice way to think about how important it is to be forgiving.
Now our forgiveness tree is full of colourful leaves with all of our promises, and it looks amazing!
We are really proud of our display and it reminds us every day to keep trying to be kind, to forgive, and to say sorry when we need to.
