We have had a fantastic first week back at school!

Our first day back was filled with energy and smiles as we reconnected with one another and shared highlights from our holidays. We also took time to think about how we can work together as a class, and it was wonderful to see everyone settling into Year 2 life so confidently and enthusiastically.

A key highlight of the day was electing our new School Council and Green Team representatives. Each candidate gave a short speech explaining why they would be a good representative. We then took part in a secret vote, giving us a chance to experience what voting is like in real life.

This week, we also learned about our rights and responsibilities. We discussed how we can access our rights and how both children and adults play a role in respecting them in school and beyond. Some of the rights we explored included the right to play, the right to learn, and the right to express our thoughts. As a class, we created a beautifully displayed Class Charter to show how we will respect these rights in our classroom.

In English, we read the story of The Three Little Pigs. We explored the structure of the story and talked about the key characters and events. To help us remember and retell the story, we used role play and added actions to make it more engaging. We had lots of fun performing scenes in small groups and thinking about how each character might move and speak. We also discussed how to use story language in our own writing, and some of us began to plan our own versions of the tale.

In Maths, we focused on revisiting our understanding of the 2 times tables from Year 1. We used practical resources like cubes to help us group numbers, and we drew pictures such as apples on our whiteboards to show our thinking. We talked about how multiplication is the same as repeated addition and practised saying our 2 times table aloud as a class. This helped build our confidence before moving on to solving simple word problems using what we had learned.

In Geography, we began our topic My Place in the World by thinking about where we are all from. We focused on a map of Marylebone and identified key locations including St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, St James’ Church, and the surrounding high streets. We learned how to create a simple map key using symbols to represent different types of buildings and places in our local area.

In Religious Education, we started our new unit Creation and Covenant. We learned the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament and spent time thinking about our favourite stories from each. We chose one story and created our own book covers to represent it, including important characters and symbols. We also began to think about what a covenant means and why promises are important in the Bible. As a class, we reflected on how we can keep our own promises and show care for God’s creation in our everyday lives.
