This week, Reception enjoyed a special visit to our school parish, St. James’ Church.
We went to explore how a parish church is a special place where we gather with others to pray and celebrate together. Father Philip warmly welcomed us and led our visit, helping us to learn more about the Holy Spirit and the early Church.
Father Philip reminded us that after the Holy Spirit came to the disciples at Pentecost, it gave them the power and energy to share the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection. He showed us beautiful images of the Holy Spirit around the church that remind us of this special event. We learnt that, just like the disciples, we gather in church today to pray, break bread, and listen to the Gospel.
The children had the opportunity to look closely at some of the sacred objects used during Mass. Father Philip showed us the host in the ciborium, which becomes the Body of Christ, and the chalice that holds the wine, becoming the Blood of Christ. He explained how, like the early apostles, the parish continues Jesus’ mission by helping the poor and those in need.
We also explored the church building, looking at its special features and learning more about the role they play in our worship. The children asked thoughtful questions, and Father Philip kindly answered each one.
It was a truly meaningful visit that helped us understand how the Church is a place where we come together in faith—just like the first disciples.
Well done Reception for a fantastic trip!
Thank you to all the parents who helped us on our trip! We’re really grateful for your kindness.
