Today Reception went on a very exciting trip to the Postal Museum!

After we had arrived, we got to meet Megan the Postie who helped us to read and retell the story of the ‘The Jolly Postman’. Megan had lots of surprises for us as we read the story and we helped her to collect, sort and deliver some very special mail. There was a letter for the Three Bears, a parcel of witch supplies for the Wicked Witch and a special post card to the Jolly Postman who we found out was on holiday! We had lots of fun learning some makaton signs which helped us to sing a song as we moved through the book.

After lunch we enjoyed playing in the ‘Sorted!’ soft play area. It was so much fun to push the mail trolleys around. There were letters and parcels to deliver, a post office and post van and even a sorting center. We enjoyed sending letters up and down in the pulley, sliding down the slide and talking to one another in the big red London phone boxes.

For our last activity, we took a ride on the Mail Rail! This used to be a real mail rail line that was used to send thousands of letters across London each day. On the train ride we learnt about the history of the Mail Rail and heard about some of the people who worked on it. We learnt a lot about the way letters are carried, sorted and delivered to us.

A huge thank you to the parents who accompanied us on this trip! We really couldn’t have done it without you.

Another big thank you to the SVPA who funded our trip! It was a brilliant learning experience for us all.

What was your favourite part of our trip to the Postal Museum (I liked the Mail Rail the best!)?
