Today, Reception class had an exciting and enriching visit to Willows Farm as our end of year ‘Big Trip’ and learn about farms and the animals that live on them.

Our day began at the petting zoo, where the children had the opportunity to gently hold and stroke guinea pigs. It was a lovely way to start our trip and get familiar with some of the animals on the farm.

Next, we explored the animal feeding area, where the children were very excited to get up close to goats, sheep, cows, donkeys and pigs. They enjoyed feeding them and learning about what different animals eat, deepening their understanding of the natural world and life on a farm.

Later, we took part in the Peter Rabbit show, joining in with singing, dancing, and helping Peter with his chores. We then headed to a live demonstration where we learnt about different types of cows and watched a cow being milked. The children were fascinated to discover how milk can be turned into cheese, yoghurt, and their favourite—ice cream! This was a fantastic opportunity to develop their curiosity about how things work and where food comes from.

A particular highlight of the day was the tractor ride around the farm. As we bumped along through fields (and even through a huge puddle!), we spotted more animals, including a very young calf an exciting moment for us all!

After a well-deserved lunch, we enjoyed the Benjamin Bunny show, joining in enthusiastically with songs and actions, before ending our day by feeding some very eager goats. We also learned how alpaca fur is used to make clothing, helping the children begin to understand how materials are used in everyday life.

It was a wonderful day filled with hands on experiences, new discoveries, and lots of fun. The children showed great curiosity, care, and enthusiasm throughout, what a fantastic way to bring our learning to life!

Thank you to the SVPA for funding our trip and to all of the wonderful parents who helped us today! I truly appreciate you all giving up your time and energy to help us today! THANK YOU!
