This week in our Religious Education lesson, we learnt about the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000.
The children listened carefully as we heard the story from the Bible and talked about how Jesus shared food with a large crowd using just five loaves of bread and two fish. We discussed how this was one of the miracles Jesus performed because He is the Son of God. It shows how Jesus cares and wants to look after everyone.
To help bring the story to life, the children had the opportunity to bake bread together. We began by carefully measuring the flour, then adding the yeast and a teaspoon of salt. After that, we mixed in two teaspoons of olive oil, a big squeeze of honey and a jug of warm water. Once everything was combined, the children took turns kneading the dough before leaving it to rise.
As we worked, we talked about the importance of sharing and helping others, just as Jesus did. The children thoroughly enjoyed working together to make the bread and sharing it with one another and tasting it at the end was definitely everyone’s favourite part!
It was a lovely way to connect the teachings of the Bible with a hands on activity that shared Jesus’ message of kindness and community, not to mention it was very tasty too!
Well done, Reception! I had so much fun doing this activity with you!
