This term, in our Religious Education topic ‘From Galilee to Jerusalem’, Year 6 are learning more about Jesus from the Gospel of John.
So far, we have learned about the seven miracles that Jesus performed which John included in his Gospel. These seven miracles were chosen by John to give us special signs that Jesus is truly God and truly human and we have been reflecting on the literal and spiritual meaning of each of the miracles.
For each miracle, we have also been looking at a range of different artistic representations of the signs in St John’s gospel and discussing how the artist had chosen to interpret each miracle.
Today, we each chose our favourite of all of the artworks we have studied and shared our ideas about the art and the miracles with our partner. We then had the chance to be inspired by the artwork and how the artist had chosen to depict the signs from John’s Gospel by creating our own artistic interpretations.
Which is your favourite of all of the artworks and why, Year 6?
I really liked this lesson! I feel like this was my favourite!
This was SOOO fun!! We all picked different artworks, so its was interesting to see how each one of us did it!!
The wedding at Cana because it is very colourful!
i really enjoyed doing this art piece because you got to choose which way you do it.
I’m not there but I think it was very fun.
Mine was Van Gogh’s painting because he has this technique that if you look closely you can see stripes
MY fav was ‘Christ healing the paralytic at Bethesda’ by Bartolom Esteban Murillo because Jesus was wearing purple and that it had some key details like the moon. I chose to include the moon , Christ and the man at Besthesda.
I really enjoyed making these artworks and my favourite was definitely mine, because I put in a lot of work to make it look similar to the original and put in my own touch as well.
That looks so good. I wish I could’ve done these artworks too. From John’s Gospel, I learnt about 7 miracles: The wedding at Cana, The healing of the official’s son, The healing at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus walking on water, The feeding of the 5000, Raising Lazurus from the dead and Jesus heals the blind man.
My favourite artwork is the Wedding in Cana painting as I love its bright colours and that it is quite new as it was made in 2023. It was really fun making a replica of this and I even used pastels for the corners.
It was amazing ,I had so much fun painting those pictures my favourite was `walking on water` from 1888. All the art works came out amazing and i hope we can do it again another time.
