For our new Religious Education topic of Pentecost, we have been exploring exactly what happened when the Holy Spirit came and blessed the apostles with the ability to speak in many different tongues and therefore go out and spread the Good News.
We studied the scripture within the Bible from the book of Acts, describing the moment the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles. They were all gathered together when there was a loud noise and a strong wind which filled the room, leaving them quite confused about what was going on. Then small tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, and they realised they could speak many different languages and spread the Good News amongst each other.
We looked at some artwork which detailed this moment and then created our own versions using oil pastels and water colours to represent the apostles receiving the Holy Spirit as it took the form of a dove soaring above them in the sky. We used warm watercolours to allow our darker pastel colours to stand out, reflecting the importance of this event.
Year 4, did you enjoy this art activity, and how do you think the apostles would have felt in that moment?
