Today our School Council met with Merle from Caterlink. We shared our thoughts on the new school menu, now that we have completed the full three week cycle. Below is a summary of our main points:

  • Overall we are very happy with the new menu
  • Our favourites are the Spaghetti Bolognese, the Burgers  (we like the homemade tomato sauce) and the Pork Sausages (but they would be even better with mashed potato!)
  • There are some dishes we don’t like as much, especially the Mixed Bean Cassouelt, the Vegetarian Toad In The Hole and the Salmon Nuggets. Merle is going to see if we can change these dishes.
  • We used to have a different, better Macaroni Cheese-Merle is going to look into this as we would like a smoother sauce and softer pasta
  • We don’t think we need a pudding every day-every other day is fine (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and we shared our favourites from those we have tasted. On Tuesday and Thursday we will enjoy lots of fruit and yogurt.
  • On one of the days when we don’t have pudding we would like some crusty brown bread. We agreed this would work well with the Thursday menu.

Thank you to Merle for coming to speak to us and thank you to our lovely kitchen staff who work so hard in a very small kitchen to prepare our fresh food.

Merle is going to go back to the office and consider our suggestions. We are looking forward to hearing from her! Thank you for coming to talk to us and listening to our views.

Update-please see below for the amended menu incorporating our suggested changes!
