In Science this term we have been learning all about materials and how they can change shape. This week, the children had a fantastic time exploring playdough to see what happens when we squash, bend, twist and stretch it. They were encouraged to experiment and think like real scientists, observing carefully and talking about what they noticed. Some children even used rulers to help make their models neat, accurate and symmetrical, showing great attention to detail.

The classroom was full of creativity and excitement as the children got to work. They made all sorts of wonderful creations, including letters, stars, animals, rainbows and even skeletons. There was lots of teamwork and sharing of ideas as everyone encouraged one another and discussed which forces worked best to create different shapes. It was lovely to see so much enthusiasm and perseverance as they experimented with their designs.

Through our investigations, we discovered that materials can change shape when we push, pull or twist them. Some materials are soft and flexible, making them easy to stretch or bend, while others are much harder to change. The children also noticed that some materials return to their original shape when we stop applying force, but others stay in their new form. These discoveries helped us think about why certain materials are chosen for specific purposes in everyday life.

It has been a fun and hands-on week of learning, filled with curiosity and creativity. The children are developing their scientific vocabulary and understanding, and they are already looking forward to our next Science challenge as we continue to explore the fascinating world of materials.
