During Religious Education this week, the children learned about the celebration of the Epiphany and reflected on the journey of the Wise Men as they travelled to visit baby Jesus. We listened carefully to the story from the Bible and used familiar pictures and visuals to help the children follow the sequence of events and deepen their understanding.
Together, we talked about the long and challenging journey the three kings would have made to reach Bethlehem. The children revisited the Nativity story and discussed why the star was so important. They learned how the bright star was a sign of hope and guidance, leading the Wise Men to baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. This helped the children understand themes of trust, faith, and following God’s guidance. The children even replicated this in our outdoor learning and created an obstacle course for the wise men to reach Jesus.
The children shared thoughtful ideas as they reflected on the meaning of the story and why the Wise Men brought special gifts to Jesus. These discussions encouraged listening skills, turn-taking, and respectful sharing of ideas.
To finish the lesson, the children took part in a creative activity where they designed their own pictures of the three kings using different shaped pieces of card. This hands-on activity supported fine motor skills and allowed the children to express their creativity while reinforcing their learning. The finished artwork provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to retell the story of the Epiphany in their own words.
Overall, the session was an enjoyable and meaningful way for the children to learn about the Epiphany, helping them to remember the story and reflect on its message through discussion, storytelling, and creative expression.
