This week in PE, we have been learning cricket skills with a special focus on how important it is to communicate with each other. For our starter, we gave each other instructions to practise listening carefully and speaking clearly. We then practised calling for the ball so that everyone will know who is going to catch or stop it when we start playing cricket games. We also made sure to give lots of encouragement to our friends, cheering each other on and celebrating great efforts. By practising clear communication, we are preparing to play safely, work well as a team, and enjoy the game even more when we begin matches.
In Music, we have been exploring different beat patterns and learning how to keep in time. We started off by clapping together and concentrating on listening carefully so that we could all stick to the same beat. Last week, we built on this by using a variety of instruments, which made it even more exciting to try and keep the rhythm going as a group. This week, we had lots of fun using boom whackers with our partners. We experimented with different beats and rhythms, discovering how changing the pattern could create completely new sounds. Working together helped us to practise good listening, cooperation, and creativity, and we are looking forward to building on these skills to make even more interesting music in the weeks ahead.
In Art, we have been studying the work of Jan Griffier, who is known for his striking artwork of the Great Fire of London. This linked brilliantly with our History topic, helping us to deepen our understanding of what the fire might have looked and felt like for the people living in London at the time. We talked about the dramatic colours he used, such as fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, and how the swirling shapes and strong lines showed the speed and power of the flames. Inspired by his style, we created our own pieces using oil pastels, carefully layering colours to show the brightness of the fire against the dark night sky. The children thought carefully about how to portray the buildings, the smoke, and the movement of the flames, and they showed great creativity in their ideas. The finished artwork was amazing, full of energy and expression, and we are really proud of how confidently the children used new techniques to bring their pictures to life.
